Heat, Humidity and Pests are all concerns if you own a home in Florida. Looking for a checklist on what should be done during the winter months to maintain your home? It’s winter time in Florida and there are several things you should consider doing for maintenance while the weather is cooler. You want to focus on the outside of your home because the weather is only cool in our state for a few months out of the year.
The best thing to do is to have a checklist that you can use to make sure you check the same things in your home every year.
- This is the time of year you want to clean your gutters. Gutters are so important to help with our rainy days in our Florida Summers, you want to be sure they are clear of any debri, so that they work properly. If the gutters are not cleaned you risk damage to your homes foundation and landscape. You can always hire a company to do this for you and have them on a yearly schedule at the beginning of the year.
- Inspect your roof, windows and doors for leaks. Watch for signs such as stains, mold or mildew. If you prefer hire a roofing company to inspect the roof while you can walk around the home and inspect your windows and doors if you have a one story home.
- Check your Home’s Foundation – Foundation issues can cost you a lot of money, be sure to walk around your home and check for any cracks or chips to your stucco. Check the driveway as well and check for any cracks on the concrete. If you have a paver driveway this is also the time to clean your pavers, re-seal them and level them. There are companies that of course can help you with this maintenance, unless you want to do this job yourself.
- Pressure Wash your home – The outside of the home also needs to be cleaned. This is the best time of year to get this done. You can do this yourself or hire a company to do it for you.
- Garage – This is the perfect time of year to organize your garage. It is not hot and it is the best time to check what you have and declutter your garage. You also want to check and maintain your garage door, check the sensors, and tension springs and tracks.
- Pool – If you have a pool do not neglect checking the pool for any leaks, and clean the pool filter systems. Of course if you have a pool company they will be checking your pool and maintaining it regularly.
- Pest control – In Florida you want to be sure you check for rodents during our winter months. Unfortunately just like us pests also search for warmth and this is the time of year you can have a company come out to inspect your home for any issues. You also want to inspect that your landscaping is not too close to your roof or home. If you see any activity that you might have a problem be sure to call a company to help you assess the situation.
